The Prairie Arts Center
The Prairie Arts Center (PAC) is a well-loved building with a long local legacy that has hosted area artists for generations; school plays, community theater, music events and Christmas shows.
Built in 1915 for a Lutheran Congregation, it transitioned to a community arts space in 1974. Led by Carol Bly, the “Madison Cultural Affairs Committee” petitioned the city to acquire the “old brick church building” and The Prairie Arts Center was born. Carol and arts-minded citizens raised funds, formed committees, cleaned, painted and started planning events!
Use declined over the last 10 years and the building fell into disrepair. In 2022 a local philanthropist purchased the building, completed over $300,000 of repairs and renovations and subsequently gifted the building and grounds to one of our local non-profits, The Madison Art and Innovation Center (MAIC). Also known as Madison Mercantile, a 15,000 sq ft community space for various public and private functions.
We intend to honor the generations of users and introduce all of Madison and the greater area to new ideas by hosting diverse, innovative, and unique arts experiences at The Prairie Arts Center.
Come by to check out our space. We are open Tuesdays 3-7pm and we’ve got all kinds of summer events planned.
